Strategy
Asteri Cannon is a strong attacker among Green units, able to provide each turn, as well as creating Forcefields to defend by giving up 4. This makes Asteri Cannon flexible and an effective threat.
If breach is inevitable, it is often better not to Asteri Cannon, as its 9 make it very resilient to breaches, while creating two Forcefields with it makes it very vulnerable. By clicking your Asteri Cannon you are reducing your total health on board by 2. Similarly, in games featuring Apollo it is wise to only create one forcefield to prevent Asteri Cannon from being targeted by Apollo (leaving it at 5).
Builds involving Asteri Cannon
For the second player, the following start is common:

However, following up with the rather unusual 3. DC allows for a turn 4 Asteri Cannon, resulting in heavy early damage. A couple turns later, another Asteri can follow. The 4 health of defense the original Asteri grants through Forcefields frees up resources, allowing to apply more pressure or transition into some other technology (blue for instance works well, as the 1 Asteri Cannon will need defending). The second Asteri and any other offense one has managed to build can then be used to close out the game. If the opponent goes for an high economy build with triple Engineer one or two Engineers will almost certainly be destroyed by the first Asteri Cannon, evening out the economies.
